Hexagram 25, Innocence — the six lines

Classical meaning

Great success. Perseverance is favorable. If it is not correct, misfortune will occur. It is not favorable to have a place to go.

無妄。元亨利貞。其匪正有眚。不利有攸往。

Image: The thunder moving beneath the sky: the image of innocence. Thus, the noble one lives in accordance with the order of the universe.

It refers to purity of intention, sincerity, and natural authenticity.

The six lines

Line 1. Innocence. Advancing is auspicious. When the attitude is simple and free of ulterior motives, moving forward yields good results.
Line 2. Not plowing and harvesting, not cultivating and reaping, yet it is still beneficial to have a place to go. Trust in the natural course of things. It is not always necessary to force the cycle, but to be willing to act at the right moment.
Line 3. Unexpected misfortune. Perhaps binding oneself to an ox, which is then taken away by a traveler. It is the village's calamity. It is not always possible to avoid external accidents. Accept with serenity when misfortune is not due to one's own actions.
Line 4. It is possible to maintain righteousness. Without guilt. Remain faithful to your integrity. True simplicity preserves from faults.
Line 5. Illness without fault. Do not use medicine, and there will be joy. Do not complicate innocent situations. Trust that some difficulties dissolve by themselves, without forced intervention.
Line 6. Innocence. Proceeding forward brings calamity. Nothing is advantageous. Do not insist on advancing without clarity. Excessive confidence can corrupt purity and lead to ruin.
