Hexagram 43 — The Decision Guai
Classical meaning
Decision. It is proclaimed in the king's courtyard. There is sincerity, but the clamor brings danger. Warn from within the city itself. It is not favorable to resort to war. It is favorable to undertake.
夬。揚于王庭。孚號。有厲。告自邑。不利即戎。利有攸往。
Image: The lake rises to the sky: the image of decision. The superior man shares benefits with those below and does not accumulate them solely for himself.
It concerns a decisive moment, where one must declare and act with firmness.

The six lines
Line 1. The Decision – Strength in the toes. Advancing is dangerous; it brings guilt. Do not rush into action. Before proceeding, ensure that the foundation is firm.
Line 2. The Decision – Alertness and outcry. At night, there may be war. Do not worry. Be vigilant, but do not let fear dominate you. Caution is your defense.
Line 3. The Decision – Strength in the face. Misfortune. The noble man decides resolutely. He walks alone and encounters rain; he gets wet and becomes displeased. Without fault. Accept the discomforts of the path. Maintain righteousness and proceed alone if necessary.
Line 4. The Decision – No flesh on the buttocks. Walking is difficult. Tying a sheep dispels regret. If words are not believed, losses arise. Accept assistance to overcome limitations. Avoid insisting if you are not heard.
Line 5. The Decision – Like wild amaranth: firm resolution. The middle way brings absence of guilt. Use firmness without excess. True decision lies in balance.
Line 6. The Decision – Without outcry, in the end there is misfortune. It is time to act and speak out. Silence in the face of evil is dangerous.
