Hexagram 45 — The Gathering Cui
Classical meaning
Gathering. Success. The king goes to the ancestral temple. It is favorable to see the great man. Constancy is advantageous. Great offerings are auspicious. It is favorable to undertake.
萃。亨。王假有廟。利見大人。亨。利貞。用大牲吉。利有攸往。
Image: The lake above the earth: the image of gathering. The superior man prepares himself and strengthens the unity of the people.
It represents the union of people, ideas, or efforts around a common goal.

The six lines
Line 1. The Gathering – There is trust that does not endure. Confusion and dispersion arise. However, if there is a sincere call, union brings joy. Do not worry. Moving forward does not bring guilt. Do not be discouraged by initial failures. Confidence can be restored through simplicity and sincerity.
Line 2. The Gathering – Leading with integrity brings fortune and freedom from guilt. Trust favors the use of simple offerings. Maintain simplicity in rituals and relationships. The purity of intention sustains unity.
Line 3. The Gathering – There is lamentation and dissatisfaction. Nothing is favorable, but if one advances, there will be no fault. Only minor difficulties. Accept that not everyone will be satisfied. True unity requires patience and steadfastness of purpose.
Line 4. The Gathering – Great fortune, without blame. Embrace confidence and move forward. Forces converge toward success.
Line 5. The Gathering – There is position and authority. There is no fault, but trust is lacking. Correct perseverance brings benefit and removes regret. Be steadfast in righteousness and cultivate the trust of others. Thus, leadership endures without regrets.
Line 6. The Gathering – Lamentation and tears, but without guilt. Accept lamentation as a natural part of life. The sincerity of emotions is also part of unity.
