Hexagram 63 — After Completion Ji Ji
Classical meaning
Small success. Favorable to righteousness. Auspicious at the beginning; confusion at the end.
既濟。亨。小利貞。初吉終亂。
Image: Water over fire: the image of after completion. The superior man, in times of order, remembers danger and takes precautions.
It marks the post-success phase — the risk lies in losing balance.

The six lines
Line 1. After Completion – The wheel drags; the tail is wet. No blame. Advance with caution immediately after success. Small precautions prevent great mistakes.
Line 2. After Completion – The wife loses the veil. Do not pursue. On the seventh day, recovery occurs. Do not be disturbed by minor losses. Serenity allows what is yours to return naturally.
Line 3. After Completion – Gaozong battles the Gui-fang; in three years, he conquers. Do not employ the petty man. Be perseverant and choose capable allies. Keep opportunists at bay; mature achievement takes time.
Line 4. After Completion – The silks have patches. Vigilance throughout the day. Do not relax because everything has ended well. Maintain order with continuous attention.
Line 5. After Completion – The neighbor to the east slaughters an ox; this does not equal the simple sacrifice of the neighbor to the west. The latter indeed receives the blessing. Prefer the simple made with truth to the grandiose void. Blessing accompanies authenticity.
Line 6. After Completion – Wet the head. Danger. Avoid overextending at the final moment. A successful conclusion requires sobriety until the end.
