Hexagram 11, Peace — the six lines

Classical meaning

The small departs and the great arrives. Good fortune. Success.

泰。小往大來。吉亨。

Image: Heaven and earth unite their influences: the image of peace. Thus the ruler divides and completes the course of heaven and earth, supporting and regulating the gifts of the people.

It represents harmony, prosperity, and the favorable flow of energies.

The six lines

Line 1. Uproot the grass, pulling it out by its roots. Follow along with the group. Undertaking brings good fortune. Seek collective support. Initial strength lies not in the isolated individual, but in the united movement.
Line 2. It encompasses the wilderness. It crosses the river trusting the current. It leaves no one behind. Companions disappear. It attains prominence on the middle path. Be inclusive and confident. Balance and centeredness strengthen your position.
Line 3. There is no plain without a slope, nor departure without return. Difficulties endured with steadfastness do not bring error. Do not worry if confidence is delayed; in the end, there will be blessings in the sharing of food. Accept the cycles of life. Steadfastness amid difficulties brings future blessings.
Line 4. Light and graceful. It does not prosper alone, but with its neighbors. It requires no warnings, for there is trust. Cultivate harmony with those nearby. Shared prosperity is true security.
Line 5. King Yi marries off his daughter. This brings blessing and great fortune. Recognize and accept legitimate alliances. Just and blessed cooperation leads to prosperity.
Line 6. The city returns to the moat. It is not appropriate to use the army. A proclamation is issued from within the city itself. Righteousness brings limitations. At the height of prosperity, avoid excesses and confrontations. Recognize that every cycle can reverse; preserve order with balance, not by imposition.
