Hexagram 51 — The Thunder Zhen
Classical meaning
The Thunder. Success. The thunder comes, terrifying; then, laughter. The shock frightens hundreds of li, yet neither the spoon nor the ritual cup is lost.
震。亨。震來虩虩。笑言啞啞。震驚百里。不喪匕鬯。

The six lines
Line 1. The Arousing – Thunder arrives bringing fear and alarm, but thereafter there is laughter and joyful conversation. Good fortune. Do not fear the sudden shocks of life. The surprise creates space for clarity and future joy.
Line 2. The Awakening – Thunder arrives bringing danger. Wealth is lost by the thousands. However, when ascending the hills, one should pursue nothing. Within seven days, what was lost returns. Accept temporary losses with serenity. Patience and trust will restore what is essential.
Line 3. The Awakening – The thunder continues and trembles, yet the movement does not bring misfortune. Do not let yourself be dominated by continuous fear. External movement does not harm what is stable within you.
Line 4. The Awakening – The thunder spreads mud. Accept that disturbances may soil and hinder progress. Persevere without losing inner clarity.
Line 5. The Awakening – Thunder comes and goes, bringing danger. Yet nothing is truly lost, and there is work to be done. Continue your tasks despite instabilities. Commitment to duty maintains order amid chaos.
Line 6. The Awakening – Thunder causes tremors; the gaze becomes apprehensive. The advance brings misfortune. However, the thunder does not strike him directly, only the neighbor. No fault. Nevertheless, there will be remarks concerning the marriage. Do not internalize the shocks that belong to your surroundings. Remain steadfast, even in the face of criticism or rumors.
