Hexagram 59 — Dispersion Huan
Classical meaning
Success. The king approaches the ancestral temple. It is favorable to cross the great river. Righteousness is favorable.
渙。亨。王假有廟。利涉大川。利貞。
Image: Wind over water: the image of dispersion. The superior man offers sacrifices and gathers the people to restore unity.
Indicates the dissolution of blockages, relief, and emotional liberation.

The six lines
Line 1. Dispersion – Use strong horses to rescue. Auspicious. Act with focused energy from the very beginning. The right impulse dissolves entanglement and opens the way.
Line 2. Dispersion – Return to the foundation. Regret disappears. Turn to the core of matters. Addressing the cause, not the symptom, eliminates error.
Line 3. Dispersion – Disperse the self (the ego). No regret. Release personal rigidity and the need for control. Humility and surrender bring lasting relief.
Line 4. Dispersion – Disperses the group: great auspice. There is a hill in dispersion; it is not a common thing to conceive. Reorganize the whole, even if it entails undoing alliances. The elevated vision justifies the movement.
Line 5. Dispersion – Its great proclamation spreads like sweat. To disperse. The king remains in his abode, without fault. Use influence with sobriety. Calm firmness dissolves tensions without unnecessary confrontations.
Line 6. Dispersion – It disperses your blood. It moves away, goes far. Without guilt. Distance yourself from violence, resentment, and risks. Creating distance is an act of wisdom and preserves innocence.
